Our culture: Jesus Christ, is without a doubt one of the most central figures of our culture. And family values are among the top values.
But Jesus himself came into this world as a refugee. And if Josef and Mary showed up today in Germany and asked for political asylum, most likely their request would not be granted by the German authorities. And Jesus himself most likely would have to live in a cell for deportees.
Refugees in Europe and Germany have less rights than German citizens.Deportation custody:
It is a scandal: People, who are not accused of having committed any crime can be confined to German deportation custody for up to 18 months. They spend their last weeks or months in Germany in a German prison together with criminals. According to the NGO "Antirassistische Initiative" (Anti-racist initiative), since 1993 at least 49 people have committed suicide in deportation custody, and at least 400 people have attempted to commit suicide. According to German law a person can be held up to 18 month in deportation custody. Sometimes deportees are put together with criminals in one and the same cell.People applying for asylum usually must stay in one district. If he or she leaves this district, he or she is committing an illegal act. This infringes on the right to free movement. Sometimes whole families are separated by this “Duty of fixed residence”.
Dublin 2
The Dublin II agreements have been mandatory since Sep. 17th, 2003. Dublin II states that any EU country, whose territory was first entered by a refugee, shall be responsible for the asylum procedure. In practice this means that a refugee, who entered the EU via Poland has to apply for asylum in Poland. And this also means that he can only live in Poland. If his wife or his children came to the EU via another country, e.g. Austria, they have to live in Austria. Thus, his family is separated. For them, living together as a family would be illegal.
